Warm, cosy tiredness

Fushimi Inari-Taisha. This shrine is so famous that it has been photographed a trillion times from every possible angle. Difficult to say something new. But I do have “my picture” of it.

I was there last autumn. I don’t know why, but this season always makes me think of a warm, cosy tiredness. My imagination was not that far from reality in that case. I was extremely tired when I got to walk through the torii gates. I didn’t expect it to be so hard to climb there. But I managed eventually, and I was happy.

I couldn’t decide about the best angle to take the picture. I wanted to say something new, but it seemed impossible. I was getting demoralised, so I took a moment to calm down and explore my feelings and get inspired by them.
I was tired but satisfied. I felt that somehow all that structure and those colours were supporting me.

I realized that this was exactly how I wanted to portray that moment. A scene seen through the eyes of a tired travellers, who would like to lean against the torii gate to rest, enjoying shapes and colours in that cosy autumnal warmth.
